DELIVERIES UNDER EXCEPTION OF FIRES, STRIKES, BREAKDOWN OF MACHINERY OR OTHER UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES. ALL QUOTATIONS WITHOUT ENGAGEMENT UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED.

The Right Honourable Lord Passfield, &c. &c. &c., Secretary of State for the Colonies,

LONDON.

My Lord,

+

I have the honour to address your Lordship

in connection with correspondence which my Company has

had with the Honourable Colonial Secretary in Hongkong,

in regard to business in an article called Mur-ray Signs,

which are manufactured in the United Kingdom. The agency

for the goods mentioned was arranged between the

manufacturers and ourselves some twelve months ago, during

the larger part of which time we have been in negotiation

with the local Authorities with a view to obtaining their

permission to have these erected on suitable sites throughout

this Colony, but permission for which has been refused,

mainly on the ground that the erection of same would

disfigure the natural beauties of the Colony.

opinion, the cause of such refusal is not at all satisfactory,

and as we have been unable to advance our interests in this

particular direction with the local Officials, we have

decided to bring the particulars of the case before your

In our

Lordship, and to solicit your kind consideration of the

whole position.
